Rafters... rafters... rafters

Finally - some progress.

The rafters have really been a stumbling block. Simply cutting those little notches at the ends, the bird's-mouth cut, was an amazing challenge. I tried several methods/tools and finally ended up digging out the table saw from under all my belongings piled on it in the garage. I set the blade at a 45 degree angle and ran the rafter piece through it - then flipped it and ran it again - achieving the triangle cut. I still think the table saw is the scariest power tool out there... I'm just sayin'.

I cut just a few rafter pieces and then tested them out - propping the ridge board with 2x4s nailed at the ends (the big center board that runs down the middle of the rafters). It was an amazing feet of daring and strength to get those 4 rafters up and attached to the ridgeboard with no other help what-so-ever. I AM Tank Girl!!!!

Once I felt good that the measurements of my rafters were gonna work - I spent the rest of the morning cutting them all out. Now I can go find some help and get the rest up this weekend.

She's looking like a house!
