First things First - where DO I start?

Flight to Mars Mobile Fun House

Deciding to embark on this adventure was a no brainer. Deciding where to start was a little bit harder though.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to fork out such a large part of my budget to buy the plans offered at Tumbleweed Tiny Houses, but after a lot of thought it just felt like the right thing to do.

Until I had enough money to make that purchase, I started poking around for a trailer. It's going to be the foundation of course - I really want to make sure I make the right choice. I asked Flight to Mars (the burning man theme camp I'm a part of) about the trailers they used to build a fun house on 2 years ago. Sounds like, even though they've sat untouched for 2 years - the group wants to hang onto them. After looking at them closer, I realize they wouldn't work for what I need anyway - so that's cool.

But what do I need - that's really the question. Can I use an old travel trailer torn down to the base? Is there something special I need? Until I have the plans in hand - I won't really know.

Downsizing

How do you shed 41 years of belongings?

Honestly - it's been easier than I could have imagined.

Simply touching each thing and asking myself "Do I LOVE this?" seems to always work. If my instant internal response is not a loud YES! then out it goes. Sorting everything in Donate, Toss and keep piles became a game - and each thing that left my possession left me feeling lighter and lighter.

Plans, plans & more plans

With one more paycheck under my belt before I go half time (and get half the pay), I'm ready to fork out the bucks.

This is my home - I want it to last for many, many years and since I'm going to be dragging it around too - it needs to be solid. I need plans - I want to do it RIGHT!

That said - I ordered the plans Friday afternoon. They should be her in the next day or two - how exciting!

I've also continued looking at trailer options. At this point I have a 21' travel trailer all set to be delivered to my Mom's house on Thursday. It was listed on Craigslsit.org - and the owner offered to tow it for me if I pay for his gas. I could go get it - but the running lights don't work and I don't have anyway to get around that myself. He's got magnetic towing lights - so it was nice of him to offer.

I'm kind of playing a little game though. Once I have the actual plans in hand I may find that that particular trailer won't work for me - or I may find a free or much cheaper one - then I'll just have to call the trailer's owner and let him down gently. I feel a little bad for leading him on - but I really want to get moving on this.

Meanwhile, I spent some time this weekend clearing a spot at Mom's house to work on my trailer. It felt wonderful = as if this was really going to happen ;)
